Contextual Studies : Ideation Crit

Ideation Visuals

Our story is about two cult leaders' revenge on each other which involved the generations that follow.

We sorted out our main story timeline that we didn't make it on today's tutorial and we had simple written it down.

This is main story bone of our story above.
Our story's cult was all about Soul.
The secret clan that appears in out story was called the 'Souler'.

Contextual Definitions

The story was required to relate to the cult.

'Souler' is about :
- the followers believe that once they join the cult, their sins or bad memories will be removed and become a new people with no memories.

' Our souls will reborn and rebirth once our souls being polished. '

The truth is the leaders will absorbed the souls, at the same time, the knowledge and the memories ot the people will transfer from the people to the leader.

Design references
The movie references

Now you see me

"Candidates for initiations must follow a series of commands with blind obedience."
The philosophy of The Eye used in the movie. The Four Horsemen committed a series of crime under the commands of an unknown person - The Eye.

Hamlet

The theme of revenge appears in William Shakespeare's Hamlet.

There are also a few revenge-based film noir that we came across with :
- Act of violence (1948)
- Scarlet street (1954)
- Cornered (1945)
- The Killer is Loose (1956)
- Tension (1950)

Everything happens because of the promise-broking of the male Souler Leader.
And the chain reaction that follows,
- the revenge planned by the female Souler leader
- murder of the wife of the male leader
- tormenting memories implanted in the mind of main character
- the avenge of the main character towards the female leader

Man of Steel

I took reference on the movie "Man of Steel", because the main character in this movie must accept he will never be like anyone on earth and that is perfectly okay if he have the ability to save the world. It isni't his gift that creates his heroism it is his choice to form a character that is worthy of a hero. His talents become secondary against his hum struggle for acceptance and love.

But,
in our story, the main character cannot accept that she is not the normal human like anyone on earth, and she cannot accept that the female cult leader in front of her killed her mum. So, she become crazy and cannot control herself to kill people in the island.

Character's Outfit Design
We took reference on the White American artist, Kirby Sattler. His paintings are all his perspective on the American Natives.

New self-portrait

We are given one and half hour to explore ourselves in the campus and pick up any materials around the campus.
I choose three straws and a yellow string as my self-portrait.
Brainstorming idea...

Final work inspired by a tree.
Three leaves represent my life and
the yellow string represents my family who always support me no matter what happened.

Yeah :D

Contextual Studies : Noir

What is Noir?
What do you know about Noir?
The actual word comes from French and it means "black". Noir is usually refers to the classic black and white film noir style. Okay, so... what is film noir?
Film noir is not easily defined. Film noir literally means "black film" in French and features themes which are more negative than positive, with an overall dark and shadowy outlook--being filmed in black and white.

Film noir is a genre that began in the early 1930's and remained as a strong cinematic medium until the early 1960's. This film genre takes in detective and crime noir as well as many gangster films of the 1930's. Noir also moves into more modern films combining with other genres.
These movies included  :

western noir - "High Noon"

romance noir - "Laura"

Crime noir - "The Big Heat"

And even modern detective noir - "L.A. Confidential" and "Chinatown".
