Colour Theory in 3D

I had teamed up with Huiyu, Jun, May and Raymond for the new assignment given - 3D Colour Theory. We decided to use origami rose tree idea as our final product. We were given two weeks to complete the assignment and present it on the presentation day. We divided our works accordingly - Jun folded sakura flowers and leaves, May folded birds, Huiyu and I folded the roses while Raymond arranged them accordingly into the tree branches that Jun had prepared earlier. We also had a tutorial class with Ms. Lisa to show our progress on our works.

A rough sketch of the origami rose tree

12 colours that we chose to use that matches the colour wheel

Some trial that we used to fold sakura and bird by using unwanted colour paper

On the day before the presentation, Monday, 4 of us stayed at campus's POD room to set up our work. We shared the room with other groups as well as they were also busy setting up their assignments. After setting up the flowers and birds, we found that the branches were still quite empty with spaces, so we decided to fold more origami roses and animals to fill up the spaces.

In the progress......

the stripes used to fill up the spaces and to be able to write wishes on it

Secondary and tertiary branches

As time passed by, we finished our setting up by the time of 12.30 a.m. We were tired but happy and satisfied as well as we managed to accomplish the assignment without any major accidents.
On the next day, the presentation started at 11.45 a.m. We presented our ideas to Ms. Lisa and many stopped by to write down their wishes of the year.

COLOR THEORY PART 1

Definitions

1. Hue
- a term for the pure spectrum colours
- red, orange , yellow , blue , green and violet, which appear in the hue circle or rainbow.

2. Value
- the relative lightness or darkness of a colour
- an important tool for the designer/artist, in the way that is defines form and creates spatial illusions.

3. Saturation
- an expression for the relative bandwidth of the visible output from a light source.
- As saturation increases, colours appear more "pure".
- As saturation decreases, colours appear more "washed-out".

4. Secondary color

- made by mixing equal parts of primary colours.
- These colours are less strong than primaries, but they are more pleasing when mixed with white to make a tint.

5. Tertiary color

- formed by mixing two secondary colours.
- Tertiary color are sophisticated and add wonderful variety to a colour scheme.

6. Complementary color

- those which are opposite to each other on the colour wheel.
- neutralize each other when mixed together in equal amounts - making a neutral gray.
- When a small amount of one colour is mixed into its complement, the resulting colour is a less intense, more pleasing version of that colour.

7. Analogous colours

- groups of colours that are adjacent to each other on the colour wheel, with one being the dominant colour, which tends to be a primary or secondary colour, and two on either side complimenting, which tend to be tertiary.

8. Tint

- mixture of pure hue and white.
- As more white is added the colour becomes a lighter and lighter tint of red, until it turns to pale pink.

9. Shade

- a colour refers to how dark it is.
- combination of a hue and black.

10. Neutral

- Does not pop out to the eyes easily.
- colour like cream, white, brown, or very light pastels with not a lot of "pop" to them.
- usually means without colour.

Lesson 3 - CUT OUT

Create two DIFFEERENT artworks (A4) using paper cutout and collage techniques. It can be in any color you wish. One artwork should represent BALANCE AND SYMMETRY while another artwork should represent DOMINANCE, SPACE AND WEIGHT.

My theme of this assignment is BRANCH.

Here's my first artwork represent BALANCE AND SYMMETRY

What is this looks like actually? Huh? I also have no idea. My idea just come out in my mind and I did.
Brain? Pompom? Spider? hmmmm..... O.O

Here's my second artwork represent DOMINANCE, SPACE AND WEIGHT

After TUTORIAL, Miss Lisa asked me to place my second artwork onto A3 size black mounting board and gave me a challenge. I accepted her challenge -- CUT OUT THE ORANGE, GREEN AND INDIGO COLOR OF THE RAINBOW to make it more nicer.

MY RAINBOW DONE! ^^

But then i felt like my artwork was too simple and empty, so i added some flowers to make the artwork more colorful and nicer.
After stick my paper cutout onto A3 size mounting board,

HERE'S MY FINAL PRODUCT.

Lesson 2 - Rules of thirds and Compostion

The rule of thirds is one of the main "rules" in art and photographic composition and stems from the theory that the human eye naturally gravitates to intersection potints that occur when an image is spilt into thirds.

In the rule of thirds, photos are divided into thirds with two imaginary lines vertically and two lines horizontally making three columns, three rows, and nine sections in the images. Important compositional elements and leading lines are placed on or near the imaginary lines and where the lines intersect.

RULE OF THIRDS GRID

We were assigned to compose our subject matters in a 6 inches by 9 inches black frame with 1 inch border out of mounting board. I chosen  SHOES as my subject matter. We were required to take 50 photos and choose 30 of the best shots of our chosen subject matter and compile them into a short video which is less than 5 minutes.

RULES OF THIRDS EXAMPLES

Example of LANDSCAPES

The focus is on the land area rather than the sky so the bottom two-thirds of the photograph are filled with land and the top third is sky.

Example of PORTRAIT

As you can see, the eyes are lined up with the upper horizontal line and each eye is where the upper horizontal line intersects with a vertical line.
